“Fulldome” is the industry term for hemispherical screen digital programs. Video projection systems are used to put full-color computer animation or real-time scripted effects over the entire dome. In the shows or image libraries we sell, most of the content is pre-rendered playback. The material is usually distributed as a video stream specifically encoded for the institution’s projection system but dome master frames can sometimes be made available through special arrangements.
Traditional planetarium show packages are for slide-based theaters. Individual “still frame” images are digitized to disc so they may be printed back to 35mm slides by the purchasing institution. In some cases, video components may be a part of the package but they will be designed for a standard 4:3 video screen as opposed to “fulldome.”
